Hester Peirce, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner affectionately known as “Crypto Mom,” has recently shared her future plans following the expiration of her term in June 2025. While some speculated about her next steps, Peirce addressed these rumors with humor and insight during a speech at a Coin Center event.
🐝 From Beekeeping to NFTs
In her address, Peirce jokingly mentioned transitioning to beekeeping, noting that “bees sting with less glee than most of my Twitter commenters.” However, she clarified that her true post-SEC endeavor involves creating an NFT collection titled The Dog’s Breakfast. This collection aims to depict various characters she has encountered in the crypto world, especially at its often uncomfortable intersection with policy. Characters include “CryptoMom,” “T-Squared” (Terrified TradFi), and “HyperTyper,” each representing different facets of the digital asset landscape.

📜 Advocating for Regulatory Clarity
Beyond her NFT project, Peirce emphasized her ongoing commitment to ensuring regulatory clarity for digital assets. She expressed regret that, during much of her tenure, she was unable to convince her colleagues at the SEC to provide clearer guidelines for the crypto industry. Peirce hopes that the current shift towards regulatory clarity will allow innovators to build technologies that enhance safety, security, and prosperity.

🔄 Shift in SEC’s Approach to Crypto
Since the departure of former SEC Chair Gary Gensler in January 2025, the SEC has adopted a more innovation-friendly stance towards digital assets. The agency has moved away from a “regulation by enforcement” approach and is now focusing on creating clear rules to support the growth of the crypto industry. This shift includes the establishment of a Crypto Task Force, led by Peirce, to develop a comprehensive framework for digital assets. The SEC has also dropped several long-standing enforcement actions against crypto firms, signaling a more open approach.
