Any confirmed US military action on Iran’s side of the Strait of Hormuz would raise the risk premium in crude, given how close the reported blasts were to the main export route for Gulf oil. Until the reports are confirmed, oil traders are likely to price the headlines cautiously, with gains vulnerable to fading if the incident proves limited or unconnected to the drone claim. The bigger risk for crude is a cycle of retaliation that threatens shipping through the strait, so any Iranian response or official US statement is the next catalyst to watch. A report that the US has been carrying out unannounced limited strikes for weeks also suggests that more incidents could follow without warning.

Blasts near the Strait of Hormuz and an unconfirmed report of a US strike have added fresh risk to an already tense oil route, with no official word yet on what happened.
Summary:
- Iranian state news agency IRNA reported several explosions on Qeshm Island on Monday, saying the cause was unclear
- Unverified reports said as many as six blasts were heard near the island and the port city of Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan province, with further blasts reported in Bandar Lengeh
- Israeli broadcaster N12 reported that a US strike hit an air defense system on Qeshm Island, part of limited US strikes carried out in recent weeks without formal announcement
- Iranian air defenses were reportedly activated at Omidiyeh Airbase
- Earlier, the IRGC claimed it had downed an advanced US drone over the Strait of Hormuz; any link to the blasts is unknown
- There has been no official Iranian confirmation of the cause of the explosions
Several explosions were reported on Iran’s Qeshm Island on Monday, with Iranian state news agency IRNA saying the cause was unclear. Israeli media separately reported that a US strike had hit an Iranian air defense system on the island.
According to unverified reports, as many as six blasts were heard near Qeshm and the port city of Bandar Abbas, both in Hormozgan province on Iran’s southern coast. Further explosions were reported in Bandar Lengeh. Unconfirmed footage circulating online appeared to show airstrikes on the island.
Israeli broadcaster N12 reported that the explosions on Qeshm were caused by a US strike on an air defense system. It described the strike as part of a series of limited operations carried out by the US in recent weeks without formal announcement. That account has not been independently verified, and no official US confirmation has been reported.
Iranian authorities have not confirmed the source of the explosions. Separate reports said Iranian air defenses had been activated at Omidiyeh Airbase in the south of the country.
The incidents followed a claim several hours earlier by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps that it had shot down an advanced US drone over the Strait of Hormuz. It remains unclear whether the drone claim and the later reports of blasts are connected.
Qeshm Island lies in the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow waterway linking the Gulf to open seas and a key route for global oil shipments. Any military activity in the area draws close attention from energy markets because of the risk to tanker traffic.
The key questions now are whether the US confirms any role and how Tehran responds. Confirmation of a US strike would mark another step in the confrontation around the strait. A continued absence of official statements would leave markets weighing unverified reports against the risk of a wider escalation.
